# Upload documents

> Upload PDFs, photos, and spreadsheets directly from the dashboard or the mobile app, without sending an email.

You can upload files yourself instead of forwarding them by email. Each upload runs through the same pipeline as a forwarded email and appears in your [Inbox](https://docs.bouncebox.app/dashboard/inbox.md).

## Start an upload

Click the upload button in the Inbox header, on the dashboard and in the mobile app. The **Upload documents** screen opens.

**1. Pick a mailbox**

Choose the mailbox that should process the files from the mailbox menu. Its extraction schema and delivery settings apply, exactly as for email sent to that mailbox. Paused mailboxes show as unavailable.

**2. Add files**

On a computer, drag files onto the drop area or click **browse**. On a phone (mobile app or browser), tap **Camera** to scan a paper document, **Photos** to pick from your photo library, or **Files** for documents.

**3. Choose how to group them**

By default, every file becomes its own inbox item. Turn on **Process as one document** to combine all files into a single item, for example several photos of one multi-page invoice.

**4. Add a note (optional)**

A note gives the AI extra context, such as "amounts are in CAD".

**5. Upload**

Click **Upload & process**. The items appear in the Inbox right away and show their status as they process.

## Scan with the camera

On a phone, open **Upload documents** from the Inbox header and tap **Camera**. Every scan uploads as one PDF, with one page per section you capture. A file row shows the scan with its page count.

* **Mobile app.** Tap **Camera** to open the document scanner. It finds the page edges and straightens each shot. Capture every page or section, then tap done.
* **Browser.** **Camera** takes one photo per tap. Tap **Add page** under the scan to add the next page or section.

To add pages to a scan later, tap **Add page** under it. Tap **Camera** again to start a separate document.

### Long invoices and receipts

An invoice too long for one photo can go in one scan. Scan it top to bottom in sections, and overlap each section with the previous one by a line or two. BounceBox reads the pages as one continuous document, so a line that shows up in two sections is extracted once.

> [!TIP]
>
> Lay the page flat in good light and fill the frame with each section. Clear scans extract more reliably. Check the extracted lines before you approve, especially at the edges between sections.

## Supported files and limits

| Rule | Limit |
| - | - |
| File types | PDF, JPG, PNG, WebP, XLSX, XLS, CSV |
| Files per upload | 10 |
| Size per file | 10 MB |
| Total size per upload | 15 MB |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Spreadsheets (XLSX, XLS, CSV) require the Pro plan. HEIC photos aren't supported. In the mobile app, **Photos** converts photos for you. Otherwise, export the photo as JPEG first.

## What to expect

* **Quota.** Each inbox item counts toward your monthly email limit, like an email. With **Process as one document**, all files count once.
* **Senders.** Allowed-senders lists don't apply to uploads, because you're signed in.
* **Paused mailboxes.** A paused mailbox rejects uploads. Resume it first.
* **Review and delivery.** Results follow the same review and delivery rules as email sent to that mailbox, including its webhook and reply email settings.
* **Inbox.** Uploaded items carry an upload marker so you can tell them apart from forwarded email. Viewing attachments and downloading results work the same way.

Your assistant can also upload files for you. See [MCP server](https://docs.bouncebox.app/integrations/mcp.md).
